University of Texas Interim President Jay Hartzell is asking students to self-quarantine for 14 days prior to returning to campus this fall.

The university is set to resume limited in-person, August 26th, with many classes, including the 400 largest courses, being held online only.

Wednesday, Hartzell announced that students should stay in their homes and limit in-person interactions as much as possible two weeks before traveling to Austin.

As for those who can’t quarantine at home, Hartzell is encouraging them to quarantine in their Austin residence for 14 days before attending in-person classes or activities.

Hartzell said the university is also exploring a football season with a stadium at 25% capacity.  Gov. Greg Abbott had previously directed colleges to cap stadium capacity at 50%.

In the meantime, students and faculty are reminded of the mandatory mask policy inside all campus buildings, with a few exceptions for eating or working in a private office.

The University is also developing an app that will allow community members to track symptoms every day and sign into buildings.
