From 9 a.m. to noon at Burton Elementary School, the school district will screen three-year-old and four-year-old children for the Early Childhood Program, which is designed to help children who do not have the skills necessary to be successful when entering school.
The program is not designed for students who are meeting normal developmental milestones, nor is it for children whose only need is to learn to speak English.
Professionally trained individuals participating in the screening include special education teachers, teacher assistants, counselors, educational diagnosticians, and speech therapists. The screening includes questions and activities in the areas of fine motor, cognitive-verbal, and gross motor skills.
Approximately an hour is needed to complete the screening.
