SOMERVILLE ISD CONFIRMS POSITIVE COVID-19 TEST IN STUDENT-ATHLETE
A Somerville ISD student-athlete has tested positive for COVID-19.
Superintendent Karla Sparks said in a message sent out to parents Tuesday that the student participates in both volleyball and cheer. According to Sparks, the end of the 14-day incubation period for anyone potentially exposed to the student on campus is August 17th, a week before the start of school on the 24th.
The school district said it will deeply sanitize the high school gym and Yegua Center, and instructed all employees and students to continue practicing social distancing and following guidelines and recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Those who may have had contact with the student-athlete are asked to monitor their health, while those who have had close contact should follow CDC guidelines. Anyone who develops symptoms should contact their primary care physician.
The district said it will continue to monitor this situation and will provide additional information as needed.
