ASTROS FOLLOW McCULLERS TO WIN; RANGERS FALL APART IN MID INNINGS

Lance McCullers carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning as the Astros downed the Giants, 6-4.

McCullers (2-1) left the game with a 6-0 lead after holding San Francisco to one hit over seven innings.

The Astros built up their lead, powered by a four-run third inning that included a two-run double by Michael Brantley.  Martine Moldonado added a solo homer in the sixth, his first on the season.

The Giants made things interesting, scoring four runs of reliever Josh James.  However, Ryan Pressley came in and got the final three outs to record his first save.

The win ended Houston’s five-game losing streak.

The Astros and Giants battle again tonight at 8:10 at Minute Maid Park.  Astros pre-game is set for 7:35 on AM 1280 KWHI and FM 101.7.

In Arlington, the Mariners broke open a tight game with three runs in the fifth and five more in the sixth to blow out the Rangers, 10-2.

Texas had a 2-1 lead on a pair of run-scoring hits by Willie Calhoun.  But Seattle then teed-off on starter Kyle Gibson (0-2) and a trio of relievers.

Kyle Seager’s sixth inning grand slam sealed the Rangers’ fate.

The same two will meet again Tuesday night at 8:05.
