BEARKATS DELAY START OF FOOTBALL WORKOUTS

The Sam Houston State football team has officially postponed the opening of its fall camp in preparation for the 2020 season.

The Bearkats were originally set to open up fall camp on Friday, August 7, but their season-opening opponent, Tarleton State, announced Monday, the suspension of all fall football activities.

With that cancellation, Sam Houston will stay in its summer access period for two more weeks before opening camp.

Currently the Bearkats are scheduled to open up the 2020 season, September 19 at Nicholls.

Also Monday, the Mountain West postponed its fall sports season because of concerns surrounding the coronavirus pandemic.

The Mountain West is the second FBS conference to postpone football and other fall sports, joining the Mid-American Conference, which voted to do so Saturday morning. A source said the postponement is indefinite, although the Mountain West will look to the spring as an option for football and other fall sports.
