THIRD POSITIVE COVID-19 CASE IN BRENHAM ISD CONFIRMED IN STAFF MEMBER
TWO EMPLOYEES REPORT CLOSE CONTACT WITH POSITIVE CASE
Brenham ISD has confirmed its third positive case of COVID-19, the third in a week’s time.
The third case was confirmed by the district in a staff member, according to a notice sent out to parents and guardians this (Tuesday) morning. Brenham ISD COVID-19 Response Leader Jamie Woodall said the employee in question was last present at all Brenham ISD campuses between Thursday and Friday. The employee is currently in quarantine and following the district’s COVID-19 protocols.
Update @ 10:30 a.m. Wednesday: Woodall said after continued investigation into the positive case, two other employees came forward and told the district they felt they had been in close contact with the affected individual. She said those employees, who do not have symptoms at this time, were sent home and will quarantine for 14 days. She said the two employees, like the one who tested positive, perform work at each of the Brenham ISD campuses. However, she said the two were on no other campuses from the time they came into close contact with the positive individual between Thursday and Friday.
Woodall said it is often less likely for staff members who work on multiple campuses to be in close contact with others, due to the nature of their jobs.
Anyone who is found to have had close contact with a COVID-19 positive individual will be notified by phone, and will be required to remain off campus through the 14-day quarantine period.
Woodall said while she expects positive cases to continue to be reported, she also expects students and staff will continue to follow proper procedures as outlined in the district’s COVID-19 response and prevention plan. She said the district is continuing to use an abundance of caution with its COVID-19 measures. She said she still feels confident in the district’s plans, and is still “very proud” of what students and staff are doing to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
The district confirmed its first case of COVID-19 September 22nd in a Brenham High School student, and its second case on Monday in a Brenham Middle School student.
