WASHINGTON CO. PRECINCT ONE COMMISSIONER CANDIDATES GEARED UP FOR ELECTION DAY

With Election Day on the horizon, local candidates are making the final push in their respective races, one of those being the race for Precinct One Commissioner of Washington County.

Precinct One Commissioner Don Koester
(Mark Whitehead)

Republican incumbent Don Koester is running against Democrat Shirley Harris-Jackson for the position, which Koester has held since 2017.

Koester, a lifelong resident of Washington County, retired in 2005 from Sears Roebuck and Co. after 32 years in the service industry.  Since his retirement, he has owned Don’s Appliance and has trained several service technicians.

Koester says he is very appreciative of the support he has received throughout the election process.

Challenging Koester is Harris-Jackson, who was born in Washington County and graduated from Prairie View A&M University.  Upon graduation, she took an internship with former U.S. Congressman Graham Purcell, Jr., eventually becoming a purchasing agent at the U.S. House of Representatives for 32 years before moving back to Brenham in 2005.

Harris-Jackson says tomorrow (Tuesday) night will be nerve-wracking, but she is looking forward to seeing what happens, no matter the outcome.
