As of Wednesday, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), the county had 97 active cases. The active count is an estimated increase of 31 cases from Tuesday, and a jump of 62 cases from November 1st. The county last reported over 100 active cases in early August.
The recent increase in cases led to the county becoming ineligible for an exemption from Governor Greg Abbott’s facemask order, after the county reported more than 30 new cases over a 14-day period. The order requiring facemasks was reinstated Monday after being lifted October 29th.
The county has reported a total of 792 positive cases, with 643 recoveries and 52 deaths.
On Wednesday, Texas became the first state in the country with over 1 million confirmed COVID-19 cases. Texas has recorded 1.02 million cases and over 19,000 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic in early March. The state reported 10,865 new cases on Tuesday, breaking a record set in mid-July.
