Burton Mayor David Zajicek listens to proceedings during the Burton City Council's meeting December 8th.

Burton Mayor David Zajicek will not seek reelection to his position this coming May.

Zajicek made the announcement while speaking with KWHI this (Wednesday) afternoon, saying he has begun “putting feelers out for someone who may want to take over the reins.”

Zajicek said he will look back positively on his time as mayor, but wants to spend more time enjoying his retirement and being with family.

Zajicek has served as the mayor of Burton since 2017 after defeating previous mayor Peggy Felder in the May 2017 election.  Zajicek was unopposed in his lone bid for reelection in 2019.

The first day to file as a candidate on the general election ballot is Wednesday, January 13th.  The last day to file is Friday, February 12th, and the last day to file a declaration of write-in candidacy is Tuesday, February 16th.  Election Day is May 1st.
