BRENHAM ISD PLANNING TO KEEP CURRENT MASK PROTOCOLS

Brenham ISD is planning to stay the course with its policies on mask wearing.

A day after Governor Greg Abbott announced an end to statewide COVID-19 restrictions and mask mandates, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) updated its Public Health Guidance, stating a public school system’s current practices on masks “may continue unchanged.”  It also says that local school boards have “full authority to determine their local mask policy.”

Brenham ISD Superintendent Dr. Tylor Chaplin said the district is pleased to be getting local control with this matter, and that it intends to keep current protocols as they are.

Dr. Chaplin said adjustments will be made as they are needed, but he feels “everything seems to be working” with the system currently in place.

  1. My son gets EVERY DAY headaches from the LACK OF OXYGEN while at school. This is ridiculous!!!

  2. Clearly kids aren’t spreading the disease to each other or the entire school district would’ve been out sick. Let the kids be kids and take the masks off.

    1. Kids don’t get to be kids in public school right now. We are in something called a pandemic right now. Heard of it?! There are safety precautions needed right now to slow it and stop it. If u want ur kids to not have to wear mask all day then homeschool them like I do. More freedom. It doesn’t take much to understand that the reason the whole school isn’t out sick right now isn’t because kids don’t spread it but it’s because they are wearing masks and taking other precautions. If you stop that then yes u will have the whole school out and not any teachers to teach! SMH

    2. Clearly the reason the schools have remained open is that masks and other mitigation strategies have been used by BISD for months. The decision to leave current strategies in place is the only option to keep our children and staff safe until more people are vaccinated. Thank you BISD!

  3. Clearly kids are spreading the disease to each other of the entire school district would’ve been out sick. Let the kids be kids and take the masks off.

  4. This is ridiculous and ruining our children’s lives. The board needs to be replaced. This is not normal and insane that they have the ability to do this to them. So they can be all over the place without mask but in the school they have to wear them still? I am appalled at the lack of leadership. Disappointed beyond belief with this statement. Our representatives need to get involved immediately and I will be writing them immediately about this hogwash.

    1. Had planned to respond to your tirade, but it is so ridiculous, that I refuse to waste my time.

      1. But you took the time to “not respond” by responding? About as much sense as wearing a mask that doesn’t stop anything….

      2. 97% of citizens have not been affected. Of those affected 99% get over it. Even if you believe the death count which you are foolish if you do…the vast majority had other serious underlying conditions…COVID did not kill them. The tests are not the correct kind to properly determine the condition. It goes on and on. This is not wise. Stop worrying about being politically correct. Use common sense…back to normal people. Wake up to the real reason all this is happening.

      3. Agree with you. Lack of respect for our medical community. Texas has one of the worst vaccination rates in the U.S., yet we chose to eliminate masks. Never been more embarrassed of our leadership.

    2. Thank goodness that this is a free country and you have plenty of options to educate your child that may better suit your needs. I’m pretty sure that wearing a mask isn’t ruining the children’s lives. Thanks to the Board and the district leadership for keeping these protocols in place to keep teachers, staff and all students safe. Teachers and staff are putting themselves on the front lines each day to educate our children, so I think allowing our children to wear masks while at school is the least that we can do to show our support for all school personnel until they can ALL be safely vaccinated. I know that it has been particularly difficult to be an educator in the era of Covid, so please know that you are appreciated and that your community is standing with you and doing our best to keep you all safe and healthy.

    3. I could not agree more!! How many times do qualified physicians have to say that masks do not work. I know many people who wore masks, social distanced and stayed home and still got the China virus. As of right now, though we have lost our free speech, we still have some freedoms left. I have nothing against people wearing masks, you have the freedom to wear them, but don’t make healthy people wear them. If you are scared and want to wear a mask, wear it, if you want to stay home, then stay home, quit demanding healthy people do what you do! This is so wrong and is demoralizing to our children. The Chinese virus may be real, but the numbers do not add up thus making this virus in reality less fearful than it really is. The government is trying to take over all our rights and people are letting them. The government has placed so much fear that now even when told they are told they don’t have to wear masks and can open up, they don’t want to. This is frightening on many levels how easily Americans are giving up their freedoms! This will be the same people crying when all their freedoms are gone, and by then, it will be too late.

    4. It’s because of individuals that have lost all sense of common sense and bought into the fear propagated by the media. Unfortunately, masks will probably never go away fully for this reason. They also have no problem “following the science” when it fits their narrative, but dismiss it or ignore it when it doesn’t. It’s sad but true.

    5. It is absolutely scary to me that there are people that think like you! Our Governor is very wrong in doing this to Texas and thank goodness our local school is recognizing that. Yes kids do spread this and yes there are constantly kids and teachers out for quarantine. Do you think not wearing a mask will help that situation?! Good luck finding teachers to teach your children in school if they take away masks and all precautions to keep people safer. The reason there are not more teachers out is because there are measures in place to help the spread. Teachers do not get paid to put their lives in danger just so ur kids can go back to normal lives in a pandemic. We are still in a pandemic. It is not over. Get over yourself!
