ANIMAL CRUELTY CASE UNDER INVESTIGATION IN AUSTIN CO.

The Austin County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating an animal cruelty case.

Shortly before 12:30 a.m. Sunday, deputies responded to the 600 block of FM 1371 northeast of Bellville for a report of shots fired.

When deputies arrived, they found a severely injured horse that appeared to have been dragged on the roadway.  The Sheriff’s Office says the horse had also been shot at least two times.

The horse was euthanized by deputies on the side of the road due to the severity of its injuries.  It was later removed by TxDOT.

The horse was a gelded gray and white, quarter-paint/Arabian mix.  Upon electronically scanning the horse, deputies discovered an embedded microchip that was unregistered.  Deputies are currently working with the chip manufacturer to identify who purchased the chip and ultimately identify the owner of the animal.

The case will be referred to the Austin County District Attorney once the investigation is complete.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact Austin County Crime Stoppers at 979-865-2949.
