Blinn women shutout Rangers, 2-0; Buc men take down Ranger, 4-1

BRENHAM, Texas — The Blinn College women’s soccer team picked up a shutout win over Ranger College, 2-0, at Rankin Field Saturday night.

With the win, the Buccaneers improve to 3-2 overall.

“It was great to have a clean sheet and they played very well,” head coach Michael McBride said. “They created some chances and that was probably one of the best performances of the season so far. It was exceptional and I am really pleased.”

Goalie Hope Hillhouse recorded a shutout with five saves.

On offense, the Buccaneers outshot Ranger 12-5. Madison Kanelos and Lexington Kneedler led the way with one goal apiece.

“I loved everything about the game tonight as the women left everything out on the field today,” assistant coach Alexandria Jackson said. “The players coming off of our bench had a huge impact in our success tonight, especially Alyssa Cisneros and Morgan Winthrop. It was a complete team effort, and we look to continue to build off of this.”

Kanelos scored Blinn’s first goal from a corner kick in the 44th minute for the Buccaneers to lead. They held the 1-0 lead at the break.

In the second half, Kneedler scored the final goal in the 86th minute to extend Blinn’s lead to 2-0.

BRENHAM, Texas — The Blinn College men’s soccer team took down Ranger College, 4-1, in a non-conference game at Rankin Field Saturday.

With the win, the Buccaneers are now 3-2 overall.

“It was a good bounce-back victory against a good team,” head coach Michael McBride said. “We got off to a quicker start than normal, so that was really good to see. All in all, I am very happy.”

Marco Rodriguez Jr. and Stefan Fevrier Sildor each scored two goals and recorded one assist, while Cesar Cabrera recorded two assists, to lead Blinn’s offense.

Goalkeeper Diego Berlingeri led Blinn’s defense with six saves.

"The guys bounced back today after a tough result earlier this week on the road,” assistant coach Jacob Beerman said. “We had a great week of training, especially these past couple of days, and it correlated directly in how we did today as a team.  It’s the best I’ve seen us do in a start in any game so far and I am excited to see this momentum go into our next game on Tuesday. "

Rodriguez Jr. assisted Fevrier Sildor in scoring Blinn’s first goal in the 24th minute. The Buccaneers held on to the 1-0 lead until halftime.

Ranger evened the score 1-1 in the 65th minute, but the Buccaneers took back the lead when Fevrier Sildor passed the ball to Rodriguez Jr. and he scored in the 69th minute.

Blinn extended its lead to 3-1 in the 77th minute when Cabrera assisted Rodriguez Jr. in scoring. Then, Cabrera assisted Fevrier Sildor in scoring the Buccaneers’ final goal in 82nd minute.

Next, the Buccaneers will resume conference play against No. 11 Coastal Bend College on Tuesday, April 20, at 3 p.m.
