BLINN GRADUATION VIRTUAL – PLAN FULL SCHEDULE FOR FALL

While the graduation this year will be a virtual event, Blinn College plans on returning to a normal schedule as much as possible in the fall.  In a letter Wednesday to students, faculty, and staff, Blinn Chancellor Mary Hensley said that the graduation this spring will be May 13th on their You Tube page.  She said that Blinn will begin hosting youth camps again this summer and employees will be increasing their time on campus.  The plan is for the campuses to return to normal this fall.

Complete Letter:

Dear Faculty, Staff, and Students,

As we approach the end of the spring semester, I would like to express my gratitude for the exceptional way the entire Blinn community has responded to the unique challenges presented by COVID-19.

Thanks to your hard work and ingenuity, we have developed innovative new strategies to support our students and their academic progress. These efforts will culminate in a virtual commencement ceremony that will be livestreamed on the Blinn College YouTube page at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 13th. While we are disappointed that we will be unable to recognize students and their families in person, we look forward to celebrating their accomplishments and seeing all they will achieve in the years to come.

As I announced on March 29th, we plan to introduce additional on-campus courses and services this summer and will resume Blinn College youth camps. Additionally, we will increase the number of employees working on campus. Supervisors will work with their vice chancellors to develop staggered, alternating summer work schedules that meet the College’s business needs and provide campus services during regular business hours, with final approval from the Human Resources Department.

It is our goal to return to regular campus operations and services this fall. To that purpose, we have opened our fall course schedule with expanded face-to-face courses and are preparing to offer a wider selection of on-campus activities and services. Further information regarding employee work schedules and the College’s fall semester operations will be released at a later date. As we look forward to returning to a more normal campus environment in the fall, we will continue to be flexible as circumstances arise. The health, safety, and success of our students and employees remain at the forefront of all our planning and decision-making.

As we monitor conditions on campus, in our communities, and across the State of Texas, Blinn will continue to utilize the Campus Clear app in the summer and fall to allow for daily self-certification and contact tracing. As we work alongside local health officials to respond to evolving conditions, our plans for campus operations remain subject to change, if necessary, and I remain committed to keeping you updated throughout our planning process.

Once again, I would like to thank you for your continued strength and dedication. As chancellor of this outstanding institution, it has been a source of pride and inspiration to see how the Blinn community has come together and supported one another throughout the pandemic. If we can answer any questions or provide any additional information, please reach out to your departmental leadership, vice chancellor, or me and we will be happy to assist.

Sincerely,

Mary Hensley, Ed.D.
Chancellor of the Blinn College District
