KRENEK, SULLIVAN WIN BRENHAM SCHOOL BOARD ELECTION; BURTON VOTERS ELECT WARNER, HINZE

Jared Krenek

The Brenham and Burton School Boards will each have one new member as a result of Saturday night’s election.

For the Brenham School Board, a three-way race for Position 7 saw Jared Krenek defeat longtime trustee Melvin Ehlert and fellow challenger Christine Giese.  Krenek secured 755 votes to Ehlert’s 588 and Giese’s 579.

Krenek said he is honored and humbled to have been selected, and as he comes onto the board, he believes facility upgrades and any associated bond proposals will be a key issue.

Ehlert said that for his 20 years of service on the board, he is most proud of guiding students through their academic journey and seeing where it takes them in life.

Giese congratulated Krenek on his victory and thanked Ehlert for his time on the board, while also calling upon trustees to better involve the community.

Tommie Sullivan

For Position 5 on the school board, trustee Tommie Sullivan defended his seat against Michelle Walbeck, winning 1,103-808.

Sullivan, who was first elected to the board in 2013, said he will continue to strive to be the voice of students and the community.

KWHI was unable to contact Walbeck for comment.

Running unopposed for Position 6 was Board President Natalie Lange, who received 1,601 votes.

The Brenham School Board will meet Monday at noon to select a canvassing board for the results of the election.

Meanwhile, for the Burton School Board, three candidates sought election to two at-large positions on the board, those being the seats of incumbent David Warner, Sr. and Tracey Cox, who resigned in November.  Warner won re-election to the board with 117 votes, while Brian Hinze will join the board after receiving 145 votes.  Boris Jumper, Sr. tallied 57 votes.
