CALDWELL JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT ARRESTED AFTER BRINGING LOADED GUN TO SCHOOL

  

A Caldwell Junior High School student was arrested Monday after authorities say the student brought a loaded handgun to campus.

Around 10:30 a.m., Caldwell ISD officials and a School Resource Officer with the Burleson County Sheriff’s Office were notified that a 13-year-old student was possibly in possession of a firearm.

The Sheriff’s Office said the student was located on school property, and was being escorted to the office for further investigation when he began to run towards the exit.  The student was grabbed by another Caldwell ISD student before reaching the door.

The School Resource Officer found a loaded 9mm pistol in the student’s waistband.  The gun had ammunition in the magazine, but there was no bullet in the chamber.

Additional Burleson County Sheriff’s deputies and Caldwell police officers responded to the school to secure the scene and assist with the investigation.  The school was placed on a soft lockdown during a preliminary investigation, before returning to normal operations.

The juvenile was transferred to a juvenile detention facility, and is facing a charge of carrying a gun in a prohibited place.  Investigation is ongoing, and additional charges are pending.
