BLINN SOFTBALL SEASON ENDS AT REGION TOURNEY

Bucs fall to Lamar State-Port Arthur, 1-0

 

HOUSTON, Texas — The Blinn College softball team fell to Lamar State College-Port Arthur, 1-0, in the NJCAA Region XIV-South Softball Tournament Monday.

With the loss, the Buccaneers were eliminated from the postseason tournament and end the season with a 22-19 overall record.

Renna Toomey had an impressive outing in the circle for the Buccaneers. She only surrendered one run on six hits, while striking out four in six innings.

Shaelyn Sanders

Shaelyn Sanders led the Buccaneers with two hits, while Emily Murphy and Samantha Rodriguez each had one.

After four scoreless innings, Lamar State-Port Arthur scored on a one-run double to take a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning.

The Buccaneers rallied in the seventh inning by loading the bases. Rodriguez hit a single, Toomey landed on base on an error, and Amy Hitt drew a walk to leadoff the inning. However, Lamar State-Port Arthur managed to record the final three outs needed for the win.
