AREA SEES UNEMPLOYMENT RATES FALL IN APRIL

  

 

The Washington County unemployment rate continues to drop.

In April, the county reported a 5.5% jobless rate, down 9-tenths of percent from March.

The county’s employment numbers dropped from 14,538 in March to 14,338 last month, however, the civilian labor force dipped from 15,528 in March to 15,180 in April.

A total of 842 people were unemployed in the county in April.

Washington County held an unemployment rate of 7.3% in April of 2020.

Statewide, the unemployment rate was 6.7%, down slightly from March’s rate of 6.9%.

In area counties:

Austin County’s rate down 8-tenths to 5.9%.

Brazos County was down 6-tenths at 4.5%

Burleson County was down one-percent at 5.5%.

Colorado County also dropped one-percent to 5.1%

Fayette County’s rate saw a 7-tenths decrease to 4.8%.

Grimes County dropped 9-tenths to 7.1%.

Lee County’s rate was down one-percent to 4.4%.

And, Waller County was down 9-tenths to 7.0%.
