HISTORICAL MARKER HONORING LOCAL WWI VETERANS TO BE DEDICATED AT FIREMAN’S PARK

An official Texas Historical Marker honoring Washington County residents who served during World War I will be dedicated this month in Brenham.

The dedication ceremony will be held on Monday, June 14th at 10 a.m. at the Veterans Plaza at Fireman’s Park.

According to the Washington County Historical Commission, at least 51 men from Washington County died while on active duty in the war.

Texas Historical Commission Executive Director Mark Wolfe says the state’s Historical Marker program “helps bring attention to community treasures and the importance of their preservation.”

Washington County Historical Commission Chair Tom Stevens says this marker “will not only provide awareness to Washington County citizens of the incredible history of our county, but it will also help to stimulate local tourism.”

The public is invited to attend the ceremony, with a special invitation for military veterans.  Light refreshments provided by H-E-B of Brenham will be available at the American Legion Hall after the ceremony.
