BRENHAM SCHOOL BOARD TO DISCUSS BUDGET, ESSER FUND

The Brenham School Board will hold further discussion on the budget for the upcoming fiscal year at its meeting Monday.

In addition to holding their second budget workshop, trustees will also hold a public hearing regarding the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) Fund.

According to the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education, approximately $13.2 billion of the $30.75 billion allotted to the Education Stabilization Fund through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act was set aside by Congress for the ESSER Fund.

These grants were awarded to state educational agencies (SEAs) for the purpose of providing local education agencies (LEAs), including charter schools that are LEAs, with emergency relief funds to address COVID-19’s impact on elementary and secondary schools.

Also on Monday, the board will consider approving the ranking of bids for demography services and give the superintendent the authority to execute a contract for said services.  It will also receive a brief overview of current preliminary tax values and state-issued requirements on appraisal districts.

Trustees will then hold an executive session to consult with an attorney and discuss personnel matters.

The board will meet Monday at noon at the Brenham ISD Administration Office.  The meeting will be livestreamed on Brenham ISD’s YouTube channel.

  1. So are they going to address the individuals who left kids out of graduation “accidentally”? Or how about the teachers and staff at the junior high flat out ignoring and leaving a child out of their watch ceremony? Or how about the blatant lack of communication BISD frequently neglects between parents and administration and staff? Or are we going to discuss the silence from the superintendent and other administrators about the horrible instances of racism, bullying and coverups through the district? These things have been brought up to the school board in emails and to the superintendent. Yet all that has been said is canned responses and statements meant to make us “feel better” with zero follow up and action. Many of us parents are curious when individuals will be held accountable and what is actions are actually being taken. We cannot keep acting like BISD is this wonderful district that cares for everyone while we are actively sweeping these things under the rug.
