WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS TO DISCUSS YOUTH HISTORY CAMP

Washington County Commissioners will revisit discussion Tuesday on a youth history camp at the Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historic Site.

Commissioners will first take up a contract for insurance between the county and the Boys and Girls Club of Washington County for the summer camp.  After that, the court will then consider approving the camp, which would be hosted by the Washington County Historical Commission.

Commissioners first heard a request to approve the camp at their meeting April 6th.  However, the court tabled action because County Attorney Renee Mueller said she was waiting to hear back from the Texas Association of Counties on what the county’s liability would be for the camp and how insurance would cover it.

Initially, the Historical Commission sought to partner with Brenham ISD for the camp, but is now looking to partner with the Boys and Girls Club.  This is because, according to the agenda packet, the Boys and Girls Club can provide transportation and drivers at no cost, as well as provide full insurance coverage on attendees both during transportation and at the camp site.  The Boys and Girls Club would select the children that attend the camp.

Also at Tuesday’s meeting, the court will consider:

  • A presentation of service awards to Washington County employees with five years of service.
  • The hiring of a maintenance supervisor for the Washington County Expo.
  • Approval of an agreement with Spherion Staffing Service for industrial positions staffed at the Washington County Expo.
  • Giving the county judge authority to enter into contracts with Keese & Associates Architects and Chappell Hill Construction for repairs to the Washington County Expo office annex and event center.
  • Approval to pay a change order for the EMS District 5 hangar.
  • Hourly rate changes for jail lieutenants, correction officer 1, correction officer 2 and jail sergeants as recommended by the Washington County Sheriff.
  • An interlocal cooperation agreement pursuant to the Interlocal Cooperation Act, Texas Government Code CH. 791, between Washington and Waller counties regarding the housing of Washington County prisoners in the Waller County Jail.
  • Rescinding agenda items 10 and 11 from commissioners’ meeting on March 30th. The items referred to the Washington County Sheriff’s facility generator.
  • An order granting a discretionary exemption for generator engineering services at the Washington County Sheriff’s facility. The court will then take up a contract for generator engineering services at the facility.
  • Approval to advertise for requests for qualifications for jail medical services.
  • Approval of the construction contract with Larry Young Paving for the Old Mill Creek Road rehabilitation project under the 2020 CTIF Grant Program.

Commissioners will meet Tuesday morning at 9 a.m. at the Washington County Courthouse.
