WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS TO DISCUSS CREATION OF ELECTIONS ADMINISTRATOR POSITION

Washington County Commissioners will meet Tuesday to consider the creation of a county elections administrator position.

The court will first take up an order creating the position and designating all election records generated after August 1st to be moved into the elections administrator’s office, with all records prior to August 1st being kept in the county clerk’s office.  Commissioners will then look to approve advertising for the position.

According to the agenda packet, the elections administrator would be responsible for coordinating, implementing and supervising all facets of voter registration and county election administration in compliance with applicable laws, ordinances, rules and regulations.

Also at Tuesday’s meeting, commissioners will consider:

  • A contract for professional janitorial services for the Washington County Expo during the Washington County Fair.
  • An agreement between the Expo and NCR for payment collecting.
  • A contract for administration services for the American Rescue Plan Act.
  • Action on the county engineer’s recommendation for approval of the conditionally approved final plat of the Century Farms at Chappell Hill subdivision fronting Wonder Hill Road in Chappell Hill.
  • Monthly reports from the emergency management coordinator, county and district clerks, justices of the peace, auditor, tax assessor-collector, treasurer and constables.

Commissioners will meet Tuesday morning at 9 a.m. at the Washington County Courthouse.

  1. The county clerk and the deputy voter register are very good at their jobs. They have volunteers to assist with election work. But now, the county officials have come up with plan B, if the voter suppression bill SB1 doesn’t get signed. Or if it does, then they are putting a conservative warden to enforce the Jim Crow regulations. SB1 says I can’t drive my elderly neighbor to vote. I can’t mail a vote by mail “application “ to my senior citizen friends. I can’t volunteer to register ANY voter. Closing 24 hour voting locations to accommodate thousands of shift workers in large cities. What’s next, bringing back the poll tax? Voter ID is imperative, but tens of thousands do not drive. It’s a slippery slope and we are getting dangerously close to communist third world countries regulatory rule.

    1. Simply put… everything you just listed is distortion and untruth.

      A. You can drive your neighbor, you just have to be listed as driver.

      B. Absentee you must prove who you are to get a ballot. Been that way for years. They’re not the same as a mail in vote. And again you can help but must be able to verify you’re allowed to.

      C. We’ve never had volunteers to register folks to vote. It’s post card or online.

      D. Only ONE county in 254 did 24-hour voting… Harris county. Even here this was used during COVID.

The new bill EXTENDS hours from 6 am-9 pm.

That is 15 hours.. covers ALL shifts,

      E. Poll tax is unconstitutional- ruled by SCOTUS years ago. Neither party would consider it. The fact that the current bill is called Jim Crow shows folks need a refresher on said laws of that time.

      F. We’ve had voter ID for YEARS now – and more than a dozen forms allowed. These include forms required to get welfare.

ANYONE actually reading this bill would see these facts and be questioning why democrats want these removed.

      1. It did not say ballot. It was stated as an APPLICATION for a mail in ballot. One can no longer send an “ application “ for a mail in ballot. Why? Any registered voter should be able to vote by mail. 45 did, as well as many elected officials.
I have been a deputy voter registrar several times in the last 10 years, in this county and others. And I have worked at polls, and assisted disabled voters when ever asked. I don’t have to be on a list.
I have assisted several times with verifying mailed in ballots and those ballots on Election Day and are verified by the county clerk and voter registrar to be from registered voters. I know the process.
Why don’t you volunteer and then you will know.
What is wrong with 24 hour polling places? Who does it hurt?
Thousands of voters don’t drive, what can they use in place of a D.L? I guess they can drive to one of the very few state license office and stand in line there for hours? How about a SS card and/ or utility bill?
Every state should do what ever they can to make voting easy and still secure for EVERY voter.

        1. i doubt your claim.

Why? There are SEVEN forms of voter ID allowed allowed:

Texas Driver License issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS)
Texas Election Identification Certificate issued by DPS
Texas Personal Identification Card issued by DPS
Texas Handgun License issued by DPS
United States Military Identification Card containing the person’s photograph
United States Citizenship Certificate containing the person’s photograph
United States Passport (book or card)

At least two you mail in to get.

And there are supplemental ones too, though they have to be verified.

          Simple search.

You also have always had to request an ABSENTEE ballot.

          6 am-9 pm. Is 15 hours.

Only ONE county has done 24-hour voting.

Just shows it’s a waste of taxpayer dollars.

And there’s a DPS office in EVERY county.

I know – I have been in nearly all of them now.

          So, I’m actually WELL informed,

      2. Quit confusing the sheep with facts. They won’t listen even when slapped in the face with them.

    2. Sadly, I agree. I believe in safe voting, but we already have that. There are less than a dozen cases of voter fraud in the last TEN YEARS! Yet they keep trying to make it harder for us to vote.

I will remember what they try to do next time I vote. And there is NOTHING they can do to keep me from voting.

      1. Your facts are rusty.
Voter fraud happens all the time, especially during presidential elections, especially in the big, democratic run cites.
Washington County is few and far between compared with Houston and Austin.
Please let us all know where you came up with your figures, because I can guarantee they are wrong.

        1. Always with the conspiracy’s, Prove your presidential statement. Facts not falsehoods. No proven major voter fraud. It appears that the masses voted, and that’s the way it goes. It’s called politics.

          1. We hear over and over that 51% of Americans are unvaccinated, which we are told are supporters of our former President. Sounds like the “majority” didn’t win the election…. Interesting
