HEMPSTEAD MAN ARRESTED AFTER TWO WOMEN, TWO CHILDREN STRUCK BY SUV

  

Four pedestrians, including two small children, were taken to the hospital Monday night after they were struck by a vehicle in Hempstead.

According to a release from the Hempstead Police Department, the four were struck by an SUV traveling eastbound in the 700 block of Austin Street around 9:30 p.m.

Two adult women, ages 24 and 26, were flown to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition.  One of the women was reported to be pregnant.

A 5-year-old boy was also flown to Memorial Hermann, while a 1-year-old girl was taken there by ambulance.

Police say the driver of the vehicle who struck the four pedestrians, identified as 62-year-old Jose Carmen Sierra Gasca of Hempstead, stopped about a block away from the accident scene and cooperated with authorities.

Gasca was arrested for suspicion of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and booked into the Waller County Jail.

Police say they are waiting for more information on the condition of the victims.  They have not stated if the four are related.
