WORK ON BRENHAM MUSEUM BULIDING INCREASING

Work is expected to increase in downtown Brenham at the Brenham Heritage Museum at the old Post Office building on Market and Main.

Construction activity, which began in late May, is picking up over the rest of 2021. The Brenham Heritage Museum has had construction crews working on the historic Post Office that is the primary museum building on their campus.

Bullock Construction of Brenham has been on site for the last several months, while Upchurch Architects is overseeing the construction and updating of the historic building.

Work includes new lighting, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, drainage and other infrastructure that will bring 21st century reliability and compliance to the century old landmark.

Work on those systems has already begun along with rehabilitation of the century plus old wood trim both inside and out.

Content for the museum continues to be developed, and the physical exhibits will be constructed over the coming year.

The museum is also seeking community engagement, including: gathering old family photographs from around the county and taking oral histories.

  1. How is it that this old post office is bigger and nicer than our newer one? Someone explain please.

  2. The building facade is beautiful with the contrast of the red bricks and green boxwood hedges.

  3. What could possibly take soo long to clean up water damage?
The speed of city government is terrible.

    1. When the museum was flooded a few years back (2017 I think), they found the wiring was not up to code (fire hazard level) plus asbestos sealing was damaged.

They have had to fix both, on top of still keep it as close to period as possible.

I DO agree they’ve taken their dear sweet time, but this will likely explain some of it.

There was some other gossip why they delay, but as it’s gossip I won’t divulge.
