The recently passed HB 27 law states that a person who is in possession of a weapon illegally can receive up to 5 years in a state jail facility. My bet is that that charge on this individual will be an added 6 months at most. Either way, the “mandatory 5-year jail sentence” in the bill for those illegally carrying a weapon will likely never be maxed out on anyone, despite the fact that 5 years in jail, plus whatever other jail time the individual gets for their other charges and convictions, might be the best thing for society in general.
