OPENING WEEKEND OF WALLER CO. FAIR
The 76th Waller County Fair gets underway this weekend in Hempstead.

Activities begin today (Friday) with the fair’s first ever commercial pen of two show at 10 a.m., followed by awards at 5 p.m. Cornhole tournaments will also be held this evening, with a ladies tournament at 6 p.m., county tournament at 7 p.m. and open tournament at 8 p.m.
Tomorrow (Saturday), the fair parade will make its way through downtown Hempstead starting at 10 a.m. The Fair Queen ceremony will start at 5:30 p.m., followed by the announcement of the Little Mister and Miss Waller County at 6 p.m.
Nine candidates are vying for Waller County Fair Queen this year. They are Rebecca Bradley, representing Rock Island 4-H; Emma Hartley, representing USMC Toys for Tots; Ashley Hill, representing Town & Country 4-H; Harlie Kuhn, representing Faith West 4-H; Emma Marino, representing The National Alopecia Areata Foundation; Maria Ramirez, representing Royal FFA and Early College High School; Kilee Smart, representing Waller FFA; Hadlee Tomczyk, representing Miller Overhead Door; and Hanna Ulbricht, representing Royal FFA.
The rodeo arena will host mutton bustin’, extreme bullriding and freestyle bull fighting tomorrow night. Featured performers will be Presley Phillips at 7 p.m., Kody West at 9 p.m. and Jon Wolfe at 11 p.m.
Events continue on Monday with a first responders luncheon and team roping, while livestock judging resumes on Tuesday and continues through the week. The carnival opens Wednesday night, and the Junior Livestock and Exhibit Auction will begin at noon on Saturday, October 2nd.
The entertainment lineup also includes TX SPECIAL and The Bellamy Brothers on Thursday, followed by The John Swat Band, the Brian Sacco Band and Gary P. Nunn next Friday. Closing out the fair next Saturday are the ‘Bout to git Western Band, Carson Jeffrey and the Read Southall Band.
