NEW NONPROFIT TO RUN HOSPICE BOUTIQUE IN DOWNTOWN BRENHAM

Ownership of the Hospice Brazos Valley boutique in downtown Brenham is shifting to a new organization.

The newly formed Brenham Charity Boutique, an independent nonprofit organization separate from Hospice Brazos Valley, will run the shop starting at the end of the month with a new store name: Brenham Boutique.  The group is comprised of volunteers at the shop who created this organization to take over management of the business while still putting its proceeds toward Hospice Brazos Valley.

Hospice Brazos Valley CEO Craig Borchardt explained that Medicare and other groups that provide funding to Hospice Brazos Valley for patient care have been paying less.  That, combined with a competitive resale market, led the organization to a point where it could no longer support the boutique.  Plans were made to close the business when the new organization offered to step in.

Borchardt said Hospice Brazos Valley is humbled and grateful that the community is willing to support it and continue the mission of the boutique.

Brenham Charity Boutique President Eunice Kelm said she and other volunteers wanted to do everything possible to keep the shop open to help Hospice Brazos Valley.

Kelm said Brenham Charity Boutique’s goal will be to support Hospice Brazos Valley and other local nonprofits, such as the Boys and Girls Club.  She said the shop will keep the same service and volunteers.  Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, although Kelm said Saturday’s hours could be extended.

The shop will close on October 28th and use the 29th to prepare for Brenham Charity Boutique to move into the space.

Borchardt will visit with KWHI this (Tuesday) morning on the Community Corner to further discuss the transition.  Community Corner can be heard at 9:05 a.m. on KWHI AM 1280, FM 101.7 and kwhi.com.
