COASTAL BEND TRIPS UP BLINN MEN’S SOCCER WITH SECOND-HALF GOAL

Blinn unable to capitalize on 11 shots

The Blinn College men’s soccer team played Coastal Bend to a halftime tie, but was unable to break through on offense as the Cougars scraped together a 1-0 Region XIV victory in Beeville.
The Buccaneers fell to 10-6-2 overall and 6-6-1 in Region XIV, while Coastal Bend moved to 8-6-1 over and 8-5 in the region standings.
Blinn totaled 11 shots, including six on goal, but was unable to punch one in down the stretch.
“It was woeful,” Blinn head coach Michael McBride said. “We couldn’t get the job done; it was a lackluster performance … just provocatively poor.
“(My players) are a lot better than that and they didn’t do themselves justice.”
The Buccaneers were the recipients of several votes to enter last week’s NJCAA national poll, and followed up the hype with an impressive 2-1 victory over then-No. 12 Angelina. But McBride said his team did little to build on that momentum Tuesday night.
“We won in an absolute humdinger against the No. 12 team in the country,” McBride said. “ … and then it was just absolutely abject today.
“We didn’t lose this one physically; we lost it mentally.”
The Buccaneers will get a chance to bounce back at home against Paris Junior College on Sophomore Day at 4 p.m. Saturday at Rankin Field inside Hohlt Park in Brenham.
