THREATS END SKYDIVING PLANS AT BRENHAM AIRPORT

Skydiving is no longer coming to the Brenham Municipal Airport.

City of Brenham Communications Manager Melinda Gordon confirmed to KWHI on Wednesday that Skydive Freedom is “no longer pursuing a business at the airport.”

Skydive Freedom Managing Partner Tony Cascino told KWHI that four hours after the Brenham City Council voted to enter into a land lease agreement with the company on December 2nd, he was contacted by the person who intended to lease her hangar to Skydive Freedom.  According to Cascino, the hangar owner “felt threatened” by some of the people at the meeting who voiced concerns about the skydiving operation.  Those individuals were not named.

Cascino said he had provided the deposit and was waiting on a finalized lease document when he was informed that the hangar would not be leased to his company.  He said the lease would have been a three-year contract with an option to purchase the hangar in any of the three years.

The person that was to have leased her hangar to Skydive Freedom was Michele Bright.  KWHI has reached out to Bright for further details on what occurred, in addition to Interim Brenham City Manager Carolyn Miller and Development Services Director Stephanie Doland.

Cascino said there is no other hangar space available, with Gordon adding the city currently has a waiting list of approximately 12 people.  Cascino said there is no way of moving forward unless there is a hangar available that someone wants to lease to them.

Cascino said he was disappointed with this outcome, as he planned to eventually move to Brenham with his wife and start a family, and felt that skydiving would bring traffic to Brenham and help out other local businesses.  For now, he will look to open his business elsewhere, and while he did not shut the door on coming to Brenham in the future, he said for the time being that it “doesn’t seem like it’s going to be a good fit.”
