David Zajicek is resigning as the mayor of Burton.

Zajicek informed the city council at its meeting Tuesday that he will step down from office effective March 8, 2022. He did not elaborate on the reason for his decision, calling it “strictly personal.”

Zajicek said he will submit his formal letter of resignation to the council at its next meeting.

Zajicek first took office after defeating previous mayor Peggy Felder in the May 2017 election. He was uncontested in 2019, and originally planned not to seek re-election in 2021, but ran after no other candidates filed for the position.
