BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL TO POTENTIALLY APPOINT NEW CITY MANAGER

The appointment of a new city manager will be the lead point of discussion Thursday for the Brenham City Council’s first meeting of the new year.

The council will first meet in executive session before potentially taking action on the position.

Carolyn Miller has been serving in the role in the interim since September 23rd, following the council’s termination of the contract of former city manager James Fisher the week prior.

Miller joined the city in 2005 and was named assistant city manager in 2015.  Fisher was selected as city manager in 2018 after previously working as city manager in Forney.

In other action Thursday, the council will hold a public hearing for a specific use permit for a car wash on West Main Street.  At its last meeting, the Brenham Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously approved the request from Todd and Tyson Felder to build the 24/7 automated car wash at 1413 West Main Street, formerly the location of the auto detailing business, Executive Hand Car Wash.

The commission gave its approval on the conditions that the car wash be built with the dryers or blowers within the car wash bay structure and have noise-lessening cones attached.  It must also place the automated entrance machine or teller underneath a canopy, use hooded and downcast lighting, and submit a landscaping and screening plan that conforms to the city’s landscaping and bufferyard requirements.

Also at Thursday’s meeting, councilmembers will:

  • Meet in executive session to discuss the possible acquisition of The Barnhill Center at the Historic Simon Theater. The council will meet in open session to potentially take action on the matter, including a possible addendum to the city’s memorandum of understanding with the Brenham Main Street Historical Preservation, Inc.

  • Consult with the city attorney in executive session regarding City of Brenham v. WTG Gas Marketing, Inc.; Cause No. 37573; 335th Judicial District Court, Washington County. A hearing on the city’s motion for partial summary judgment, concerning WTG’s counterclaims against the city, will be held Thursday at 9:30 a.m.
  • Consider a bid related to sludge removal and digester thickener cleaning at the city’s wastewater treatment plant.
