NAVASOTA WOMAN KILLED IN OVERNIGHT SHOOTING

Navasota police are investigating after a local woman was shot and killed early this (Thursday) morning at a home.

Navasota Police Chief Shawn Myatt said officers received a report of shots fired around 1:30 a.m. in the 900 block of Millican Street.  63-year-old Denise Wells of Navasota was found dead at the scene.

Myatt declined to provide additional details regarding the circumstances of the shooting.  However, multiple outlets report there was an exchange of gunfire after an unknown male kicked in the front door of the house and began firing a gun.  An occupant inside the home then reportedly returned fire.

Myatt said the incident is isolated to the home, and there is no danger to the public at large.

Investigation is ongoing, and police are following leads on some suspects.  No further details can be released at this time.
