BRENHAM CUBETTE SPLIT FIRST DAY OF THE LEADOFF CLASSIC

CLEAR FALLS 4 BRENHAM 3

The Brenham Cubettes opened the Leadoff Classic with a 4-3 loss to the Clear Falls Knights. The Cubettes were leading 3-0 when Clear Falls rallied with four runs in the top of the sixth inning. A couple of Brenham errors factored into the Knights scoring. Della Jasinski took the tough luck loss going six innings, allowing four runs, none of which were earned. She also struck out 12 batters. Sarah Mabie led Brenham at the plate with two hits, a walk, an RBI, and she also scored a run. Annie Beckendorf had an RBI single. Avery Maurer added a double, and Kaylie Rodriguez had a triple.

BRENHAM 3 IDALOU 0

The Cubettes faired much better in the second game as they defeated the Idalou Lady Wildcats and former Brenham Coach Walt Mangan 3-0. Both teams had to battle cold temperatures as the weather got down into the lower 40s/upper 30s with a 15-20 mph wind on top of that. Brenham got two runs in the first inning on an error when Kaylyn Rodriguez laid down what was supposed to be a sacrifice bunt, and the Wildcat catcher overthrew first base. The overthrow allowed Avery Maurer and Halle Scheel to score. Brenham added another run in the fourth inning when Kaylie Rodriguez singled home Sarah Mabie. Della Jasinski was dominate in the circle with a complete game shutout. She allowed only two hits and two walks. Jasinski also struck out another 12 batters, giving her a total of 24 strikeouts on the day.
