OVER $75,000 IN CASH FOUND HIDDEN IN A VEHICLE ON I-10

Over $75,000 in cash was found hidden in a tailgate on I-10 Monday.
Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that Monday morning at 10:15 AM, Drug Interdiction Investigator David Smith conducted a traffic stop on I-10 near Flatonia. After talking with the driver, Smith observed many criminal indicators and requested a K-9 for assistance. Sgt. Randy Thumann and his K-9 Kolt assisted Smith with the stop. Kolt alerted the vehicle and a subsequent search revealed 5 vacuum sealed bundles of cash hidden in the tailgate of the pickup. Arrested and transported the Fayette County Jail was Jorge Cortez, 42 of Laredo, charged with Felony Money Laundering. The currency amount recovered totaled $75,775.
