MICHAEL MARTIN MURPHEY PERFORMING FRIDAY AT THE BARNHILL CENTER
A few seats remain available for tonight’s (Friday) performance of the original Cosmic Cowboy, Michael Martin Murphey, at The Barnhill Center in downtown Brenham.
Murphey will play selections from his 30-plus chart-topping hits in the pop, country, western and bluegrass genres at tonight’s concert, which begins at 7 p.m. He is also known for his cowboy poetry, which will also be included in the show.
Murphey’s career started in the 1970s in Austin along with artists Jerry Jeff Walker and Gary P. Nunn. Together, they created the “Cosmic Cowboy” movement, which drew artists like Willie Nelson to the scene and helped birth the “Outlaw country” movement. He released multiple albums in the 1970s, culminating with the Platinum classic hit “Wildfire” from the certified Gold Album Blue Sky Night Thunder.
Murphey’s career has been celebrated with many awards, including the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 59th Annual Western Heritage Awards in April 2019. He most recently was honored in October at the christening of his “Trail of Fame” marker just outside Billy Bob's in Fort Worth.
