BRENHAM HIGH SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICERS ARREST JUVENILE FOR BRINGING HANDGUN ON CAMPUS
Brenham Police are investigating a case involving a Brenham High School student that was caught with a handgun on campus earlier today (Monday).
The Resource Officers were approached in reference to a student who was said to be in possession of a handgun while on school grounds.
According to a release from Brenham ISD, the School Resource Officers immediately conducted a thorough investigation, which led to the discovery of the handgun in possession of a juvenile student.
Police explained that the handgun had a lock on it, and the student did not have the key to the lock, therefore it could not have been fired.
The juvenile student was taken into custody and released to the juvenile probation department.
Authorities say the High School is secure, and the handgun has been placed into evidence at the Brenham Police Department.
The investigation into the case is ongoing.
Brenham ISD also state in the release that they appreciate the students who brought the incident to their attention, and the diligence of the High School Administration and High School Resource Officers in handling this situation to ensure the safety of the students.
“Police explained that the handgun had a lock on it, and the student did not have the key to the lock, therefore it could not have been fired.”
OK, this does not make me feel better as a parent. Do you think maybe the child told the officers that he didn’t have a key ONCE HE OR SHE WAS CAUGHT with the gun? This statement comes off as pretty lackadaisical and flippant when we are talking about school safety and a handgun inside a school.
I totally agree with you. Having kids of my own at the high school and they didn’t know about it until after school, doesn’t make me feel like my kids are safe. It doesn’t matter if it had a lock or not, the fact is that the kid brought it to school. It’s sad that we are most likely going to have to have metal detector put in our schools. And I, as the parent, never received a phone call or email about the incident. I read about it on Facebook and KWHI. This school district is not doing very well.
We received an email from BISD yesterday afternoon. Make sure the school has your correct information. As for the timing of the notification, their first priority was to secure the firearm and the student. If they had immediately notified students and parents, there would have been mass panic, possibly creating a more dangerous situation.
thank you,,,,i agree with you,, there is no need to create panc,,,which seems to be easy to do nowdays.
Imagine how some of us felt. It hurt. Most of us found out from this article. The school never went on lockdown and nobody was alerted. As a student, I don’t feel safe attending anymore.
It was simply a fact of the case. Noting it was necessary. It didn’t change the charge the kid got. The police weren’t taking the kids word for it I can assure you.
If he was in a position to hide something I don’t think it would have been the key.
You’d prefer them use inflammatory speech like SCHOOL SHOOTING AVERTED BY POLICE!?
Lock or no lock, there should be zero tolerance for a student bringing a firearm to school. I appreciate the gun owner taking the responsibility and caution to put a lock on the gun.
there probably is a “no Tolerence” in the school policy.
