LOCAL UNEMPLOYMENT RATE DOWN IN FEBRUARY
Unemployment numbers in Washington County dropped in February, after rising at the start of the year.
According to the Texas Workforce Commission, the county’s unemployment rate decreased from 4.6 percent in January to 4.4 percent last month.
The county’s total of unemployed residents dipped from 676 in January to 654 in February.
Last month reported 14,366 employed residents out of a civilian labor force of 15,020. That compares to 14,107 people employed and a civilian labor force of 14,783 in January.
In February 2021, the unemployment rate was 6.1 percent, with 948 people jobless in the county.
The state’s unemployment rate also decreased in February to 4.7 percent, compared to 4.8 percent in January.
The jobless rates for surrounding counties include:
- Austin County – 4.6 percent, down from 4.7 percent in January.
- Brazos County – 3.4 percent, down from 3.6 percent.
- Burleson County – 4.2 percent, down from 4.3 percent.
- Fayette County – 3.8 percent, unchanged from January.
- Grimes County – 5.8 percent, down from 6 percent.
- Lee County – 4 percent, up from 3.8 percent.
- Waller County – 5.1 percent, down from 5.3 percent.
