WASHINGTON CO. APPRAISAL DISTRICT SENDING OUT APPRAISAL NOTICES

Over 25,000 properties in Washington County have received their tax appraisal notices, and average home values in each of the eight local taxing districts are going up by at least 11 percent.

According to preliminary average homestead values released by the Washington County Appraisal District, values in Washington County, Brenham ISD, Burton ISD, the City of Brenham, the City of Burton, Oak Hill Fresh Water District, Blinn College and the Pecan Glen Road District are all up between 11.3 and 12.3 percent.

When evaluating the increases by property category, covering the sum total of property in that category in comparison to last year, the preliminary values for residential, single-family and non-rural properties—including new homes that have been added since last year—are up 33.6 percent.  Vacant lots are up 75.1 percent, while agricultural land is up 18.9 percent, rural residential property has increased by 29.8 percent, and mobile homes are up 10.4 percent.

Chief Appraiser Dyann White said notices of value have been sent on everything except commercial property and non-rendered business personal property.

As of this (Friday) morning, the appraisal district has received 327 protests and expects it will receive 1,200-1,500 protests in total.  The land and residential protest deadline is June 20th.  The oil, gas and industrial protest deadline was June 1st.  Commercial properties will have 30 days to protest once the notices are mailed, which White said will be as soon as possible.

Appraisers are available for walk-ins to discuss appraisals with property owners Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Friday by appointment only.

White said the appraisal roll will be certified by July 25th.  By August 7th, property owners will be able to access a local property tax information website, https://washingtoncountytaxes.org, that will estimate their property taxes using the certified value and the proposed tax rates.  The website will display when taxing units plan to meet to set their tax rates, and allow property owners to send comments on the proposed rates directly to the taxing unit.

  1. Historically, more new residential properties ever. Communistically, more government increases in taxes than ever before.

  2. My appraised Value went up by One Hundred and ten thousand dollars in one year !!! Yet I look on the website and see some people who have not had a value increase in years.. I don’t mind paying my fair share of taxes But make it fair raise everyone up not just the same people over and over. What am I getting for my tax payment, A school that is falling apart ( Per the school board) County roads that are patches on patches in the asphalt, Road ditches that are mowed ONLY once a year ( but you have to call them to get it done) a law enforcement agency that is undermanned , and the city management paying out money for lawsuits because they cannot do their job correctly, I am so happy that the school bond did not pass as I will struggle to get my taxes paid as is.
