WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS TO CONSIDER GOING OUT FOR BIDS FOR JAIL GENERATOR
Washington County may move further along in obtaining a permanent generator for the Washington County Sheriff’s Office when commissioners meet on Tuesday.
The court will vote on issuing requests for proposals for a 750 kilowatt generator through the American Rescue Plan.
The process of securing a replacement generator for the sheriff’s office and jail has been ongoing since March 2021, with Sheriff Otto Hanak recently expressing frustration at the length of time taken to find a long-term solution. The jail has been using a temporary generator since December.
In other action Tuesday, commissioners will consider an oil and gas development resolution. County Engineer Wesley Stolz said this is a review process for permitting new oil and gas activity, looking at where developers set up and what routes they will take.
The court will also look to approve a TxDOT advanced funding agreement resolution to replace bridges on Dierking Road at Williams Creek, Machemehl Road at Thomas Creek, Bosse Road at Doe Run Creek, Randermann Road at Hardeman Branch and Artesian Park Lane at the east fork of Mill Creek.
According to the resolution, the usual fund participation ratio for projects in the program is 80 percent federal, 10 percent state and 10 percent local. The estimated project cost for the five bridges is $3.15 million, with the county’s match expected around $315,000.
Also on Tuesday, commissioners will:
- Hear monthly reports from Information Technology, emergency management coordinator, county and district clerks, justices of the peace, auditor, tax assessor-collector, treasurer, constables and elections.
- Consider a 60-day extension for excess vacation hours for Vincent Hensen with Washington County Engineering and Development.
Commissioners will meet Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the Washington County Courthouse.
