SMITHVILLE WOMAN ARRESTED AFTER PURSUIT ENDS IN CHAPPELL HILL

A Smithville woman is in Washington County custody after a high-speed chase late Wednesday night out of Harris County.

According to DPS Sergeant Justin Ruiz, a trooper was on Highway 290 near Mason Road in the Cypress area around 11:50 p.m. when the trooper spotted a 2015 Ford Fusion driving at a high rate of speed.

The trooper activated emergency lights, but the vehicle evaded.  A pursuit ensued with speeds reaching over 100 mph.

Upon running the license plate, the trooper learned the vehicle was stolen from the Houston area.

At approximately 12:05 a.m. Thursday, the driver stopped on Highway 290 near Sausage Lane in Chappell Hill.

23-year-old Bailey Lynn Tompkins was arrested without further incident and booked into the Washington County Jail on charges of Evading Arrest or Detention with a Vehicle and Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle.  She remains in jail on $30,000 bond.
