Animal rescue workers on Wednesday removed 26 animals from a property in Washington County.

The Houston SPCA Animal Cruelty Investigation Team worked with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office to rescue 17 equine, including three donkeys, as well as nine felines from a property located off Old Navasota Road.

According to the SPCA, the property owners were not providing proper care for the animals.

The teams spent much of the day loading and transporting the horses and donkeys to a nearby Houston SPCA property for individualized exams by staff veterinarians.  The felines were taken to the Houston SPCA medical center.

The SPCA says after initial exams, the animals will be considered for the animal protection organization’s adoption program or will remain in their care for any treatments.
