WASHINGTON CO. RE-INSTITUTES BURN BAN EFFECTIVE WEDNESDAY

A burn ban is going back into effect for Washington County.

County Commissioners voted unanimously this (Tuesday) morning to restrict outdoor burning in unincorporated parts of the county. The ban will go into effect tomorrow (Wednesday) at 8 a.m., and will remain in effect for 90 days unless ended earlier based on a determination by the court or the Texas Forest Service.

County Judge John Durrenberger said the court’s decision to re-enact a burn ban is based off of the recommendation and vote of county fire chiefs.  According to Durrenberger, the chiefs were 6-4 in favor of bringing back a burn ban as of Thursday.

The county was without a burn ban since September 8th, when the ban that had been in effect since July 5th was lifted.

Washington County joins Austin, Colorado, Fayette, Grimes and Waller counties on the list of active burn bans in the area.

  1. How many of you responding to this are actually volunteer fire fighters? Now, the big question…how many of the recent fires have been caused by people burning?? You can put a ban on all you want, but it won’t stop fires from starting. It will keep the smart people from burning their trash and wood piles but it doesn’t stop the lightening strikes, the mower/baler fires, the electric lines from arcing, cars from catching fire and setting the grass on fire. So the 4 that voted against are the four not giving in to peer pressure as that is what is happening.
Do your research and then let’s talk.

  2. The county has had minimum rain the whole year, what a stupid, move taking it off and putting it on. Just leave the burn ban in place until we get a lot of soaking rain and the ground is saturated, geez get on with other business that needs to be addresses besides trying to play meteorologist.

  3. And who of the 4, voted to not bring it back this time? Don’t think they get out much. The whole area is and has been for the past 5 months is under a extreme drought.

  4. Whould like to know what 4,voted no to not put back burn ban? They must live in a,different county

  6. Commissioners were chomping at the bit to take it off. My question was why?.. That was stupid move on their part.

    1. All the people with trash piling up have no doubt been bending their ear.
My question is why people are allowed to burn trash containing plastics, chemicals, and the like in the first place.
Make them use a trash service.
