AC ISSUES AT BRENHAM POST OFFICE RESTRICT PRINTING OF POSTAGE, PREPAID LABELS
Air conditioning problems at the Brenham post office are restricting certain services.
A post office clerk tells KWHI that because of the air conditioning unit being out, they are unable to print postage and print out prepaid labels via QR codes. This is because the thermal postage printers jam up when the post office gets above a certain temperature.
The post office can still sell stamps, print money orders, take P.O. Box payments and accept packages that already have a prepaid label.
KWHI has attempted to reach out to the post office directly for a timeline as to when the issues will be resolved. Update @ 5:45 a.m. Thursday: KWHI also contacted the regional United States Postal Service (USPS) communications specialist, who provided a response below:
The safety and well-being of all postal employees and customers is of paramount importance to the Postal Service. Regarding the HVAC system at the Brenham Post Office, local management is taking necessary steps to resolve the matter. Currently, there is work being performed on the HVAC system at the Brenham Post Office. In the interim, local management will continue to monitor the indoor temperatures and install temporary cooling as needed. Employees have been encouraged to take extra breaks, as needed, and water has been provided. Our employees are committed to providing the best service possible, even under these unique circumstances and we value their dedication. We appreciate our customers’ patience while we make improvements that will allow us to continue providing exceptional service to our customers. - Kanickewa “ Nikki” Johnson, Strategic Communications Specialist for South Carolina/Texas 2 Districts, U.S. Postal Service Southern Area Corporate Communications
This is not the first time the post office employees and patrons have had to endure long periods of time without air conditioning. Customers reported similar troubles last summer, with some saying the issues extended for several months.
