BURTON SCHOOL BOARD RECEIVES BOND UPDATE, DISCUSSES GRADUATION
The Burton bond project is drawing closer to an official start date for construction.
During Monday’s Burton School Board meeting, DSA Construction Management Project Manager Stad Tomlinson said everything is out to bid right now for contractors. A pre-bid meeting will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Burton High School auditorium to allow contractors to walk through the project, meet with the architect and ask questions.
November 2nd is the deadline to submit bids, with bid opening scheduled for November 3rd. DSA will then present its recommendation on which bids to accept to the board, who will vote on the matter in mid-November. Once that is all finalized, construction can begin.
DSA Sales and Marketing Director Joe Carlock said bidders are being given as much information as possible so that they know exactly what they are bidding on. He said most of the bids will come in near the deadline, so while DSA may not have a feel on what the number of bids will be, the project is receiving a lot of interest, which usually leads to better prices.
During her monthly report, Superintendent Dr. Edna Kennedy announced that the school district passed the state’s intruder detection audit that was conducted at the elementary school. She also told trustees that an item will be placed before them at next month’s meeting to consider moving high school graduation to Thursday, May 25th, as Brenham High School is planning to hold its graduation on Friday, May 26th. She said a decision will also need to be made on where to host the graduation ceremony; some options suggested included the Roy Winkler Family Pavilion or Festival Hill in Round Top.
In board action, trustees heard and approved the 2021-22 ESL program evaluation.
