AREA UNEMPLOYMENT RATES DOWN IN SEPTEMBER

  

Unemployment rates declined during the month of September for Washington and surrounding counties.

Per the Texas Workforce Commission, Washington County’s unemployment rate fell three tenths of a percent in September to 3.8 percent from 4.1 percent in August.

The number of unemployed residents in the county decreased from 613 in August to 554 last month.

Out of a civilian labor force of 14,761, 14,207 residents were employed in September.  That compares to August where the civilian labor force was 14,852 and employment numbers tallied at 14,239.

In September 2021, the county reported an unemployment rate of 4.7 percent, with 713 people out of work.

The statewide unemployment rate dropped by one tenth from 4.1 percent in August to 4 percent in September.

Area counties also saw their unemployment rates fall in September:

  • Austin County – 3.8 percent, down from 4.1 percent in August.
  • Brazos County – 3.0 percent, down from 3.4 percent.
  • Burleson County – 3.7 percent, down from 3.9 percent.
  • Fayette County – 3.4 percent, down from 3.5 percent in August.
  • Grimes County – 4.6 percent, down from 5.2 percent.
  • Lee County – 3.3 percent, down from 3.4 percent.
  • Waller County – 4.1 percent, down from 4.6 percent.
