KOLKHORST, McCAUL WIN RE-ELECTION TO TEXAS SENATE, U.S. CONGRESS

  

Washington County’s incumbents in the Texas Senate and U.S. Congress have won another term in office.

Republican Lois Kolkhorst of Brenham defeated Democrat Josh Tutt of Burleson County to retain her Senate District 18 seat.  Kolkhorst, who has served in the Senate since 2014, secured 66.1 percent of the vote.

Kolkhorst says she is thankful for all of the support she has received, and that the true work begins in January.

 

Tutt says from the beginning, he wanted to make sure voters in this race had a chance to select a preferred candidate, and is honored he could give voters that option.

 

Kolkhorst led in all of Senate District 18’s counties except Fort Bend County.

Meanwhile, Republican Michael McCaul won re-election to U.S. Congressional District 10 over Democrat Linda Nuno and Libertarian Bill Kelsey.  McCaul, who has held the seat since 2005, received 63.2 percent of the vote to Nuno’s 34.3 percent and Kelsey’s 2.4 percent.

McCaul won all but one of the counties in Congressional District 10, with Williamson County going to Nuno.

KWHI has reached out to each of the three Congressional candidates for their words about the election.

In Texas House Districts 17 and 85, Republicans Stan Gerdes and Stan Kitzman won election to the respective seats.

Gerdes claimed 64.2 percent of the vote, while Democrat Madeline Eden received 31.8 percent and Independent Linda Curtis took in 3.9 percent.  Gerdes was the leader in all five counties in House District 17.

Kitzman attained 73.8 percent of the vote for House District 85, with Democrat Larry Baggett receiving 24.2 percent and Libertarian Michael Miller bringing in 1.9 percent.  Kitzman won all six counties in the district.
