CITY OF BURTON TO BEGIN ONLINE BILL PAY
The City of Burton will soon start offering residents the ability to pay their utility bills online.
The Burton City Council on Tuesday approved a proposal from Nexbillpay for integrated credit card processing services for online utility bill payments, RVS integration and e-billing notifications.
Utility Clerk Rachel Belvin said the city does take credit and debit card payments, but the current system is not very efficient. She said this is a way of “keeping up with the times now” and providing a more modern option.
Belvin said Nexbillpay works directly with the city’s existing RVS software. Customers can either make payments manually per month or set up automatic payments. They can also get text reminders.
According to Belvin, the city sends out 287 bills a month via the mail. She expects about 75 percent of residents will move to online bill pay, with the rest continuing to pay as they have been.
The cost to the city is $995 to set up the new system and $300 to integrate paperless billing. Both are one-time payments.
Also on Tuesday, the council awarded BEFCO Engineering an engineering services contract to prepare the city’s 2023-24 Texas Community Development Block Grant application and, if funded, the subsequent engineering contract.
A workshop was planned to discuss water and sewer rates as well as garbage services and rates, but it was postponed as the council did not have all of the data it needed to review the topic.
