TxDOT PUBLIC MEETING TUESDAY ON HIGHWAY 290 – FM 1155 INTERSECTION

TxDOT will hold a public meeting tomorrow (Tuesday) for citizens to give their feedback about proposed upgrades to the Highway 290 – FM 1155 intersection in Chappell Hill.

TxDOT is proposing a traditional overpass design at
the intersection of Highway 290 and FM 1155, with
the Highway 290 traffic bridged over the 1155 –
Main Street traffic.

The in-person meeting will be held at the St. Stanislaus Catholic Church parish hall at 9175 FM 1371.  The meeting begins with an open house at 4:30 p.m., followed by a live presentation at 6 p.m.

Guests will be able to speak to TxDOT staff and consultants and ask questions.  They can also review copies of project materials and leave written comments.

The improvements to the intersection are planned as part of a larger project to widen Highway 290 to six lanes along a 12-mile stretch in Washington and Waller counties, from FM 1371 to Highway 6.

TxDOT intends to use an overpass design at the intersection, building a Highway 290 bridge over FM 1155 with entrance and exit ramps for local access.  The enhancements would incorporate pedestrian accommodations in order to allow them to cross under Highway 290 safely.  Right of way will be required for these improvements.

Tomorrow’s meeting will also go over TxDOT’s plans for short-term and near-term solutions at the intersection while the larger improvements are developed.  Those include new signage and modified signal timing, as well as the use of a Restricted Crossing U-Turn (R-CUT) intersection, which would reduce conflict points by redirecting side street left-turning movements to offset U-turn locations.

Written comments on the project can be submitted by mail to the TxDOT Bryan District Office, Attn: Juan Quiroz, P.E., 2591 North Earl Rudder Freeway, Bryan, TX 77803.  Comments can also be emailed to Juan.Quiroz@txdot.gov.  All comments must be received on or before February 1, 2023 to be included in the public meeting documentation.

Public meeting information, including exhibits and presentations, will be available on the project webpage for viewing and download tomorrow.  To access the webpage, visit www.txdot.gov and keyword search “US 290 at FM 1155”.
