SALES TAX REBATES IN WASHINGTON CO. ALL UP IN MARCH  

  

Washington County and Brenham had slight increases in sales and tax distributions for the month of March, while Burton’s rebate was up significantly.

The county’s rebate this month totaled $336,345, up 7.06 percent from last March’s payment of $314,139.  So far this year, the county has brought in $1,162,184 in rebates, 10.29 percent more than the $1,053,722 received through this point last year.

Brenham received $698,026 this March compared to $661,157 in March 2022, an increase of 5.57 percent.  At this point in 2023, the city has received $2,306,643, 3.6 percent up from this time last year, when the city’s receipts amounted to $2,226,387.

Burton’s March rebate was 152.2 percent more than last March, as its collection of $8,336 this month more than doubled the $3,305 from a year ago.  To date, the city has received $29,432 this year, which is up 15.78 percent from the $25,420 through the first three payments of 2022.

Comptroller Glenn Hegar reported a state payout of $1 billion in local sales tax allocations this month, up 9.9 percent from last March and up 8.9 percent for the year at this time.
