CUBS DROP DISTRICT OPENER TO COLLEGE STATION 3-1

The Brenham Cubs dropped their district opener to the College Station Cougars 3-1 this (Tuesday) afternoon at Fireman's Park.

The Cubs did get on the board first. Lane Sparks drew a walk, stole second, and stole third. He later scored on a sacrifice fly by Drake Bentke.

Gunner Gee had two singles, one in the first and one in the sixth, which were the only two Brenham hits on the day.

College Station took the lead on a pair of runs in the top of the fourth on a two-run single by K.J. Cross that scored Rylan Deming and Cristian Lopez to put the Cougars up 2-1.

College Station got an insurance run in the top of the sixth when Cross scored on an RBI single by pinch-hitter Drew Smacel to increase the Cougars lead to 3-1.

Aiden DeLeon was the winning pitcher for College Station, while Ben Petranella picked up the save.

Lane Sparks took the tough loss going seven innings allowing three earned runs, five hits, one walk, and seven strikeouts.

The series resumes tomorrow (Wednesday) afternoon in College Station at 1pm (12:35pm pregame on KWHI 1280AM, 101.7FM, and KWHI.com).
