SUSPECTED INTOXICATED DRIVER CAUSES POWER OUTAGE, GRASS FIRE IN NAVASOTA AFTER HITTING POWER POLES

  

Charges are pending for a driver in Navasota who caused a power outage and started a grass fire after hitting power poles over the weekend.

Around 11:30 p.m. Sunday, Navasota police and firefighters responded to the 1100 block of West Washington Avenue for a one vehicle rollover with a possible grass fire.

Officers arrived on scene and observed that a vehicle traveling eastbound had crashed, rolled over and struck several power poles on Washington Avenue. 

Police say at least two power poles fell over, resulting in live wires igniting a small grass fire.  Due to the damage to the power poles and lines, power was lost in the area.

The driver was found to have non-life-threatening injuries and, according to police, signs of being intoxicated.  He was transported by ambulance to St. Joseph Hospital in Bryan. 

Entergy responded to replace the damaged power poles and restore power, a process that took several hours.
